Affolter wurde 2025 nach= =C3=BCber vier Jahrzehnten T=C3=A4tigkeit in Forschung und Lehre emeritier= t.=20 =3D=3D Wirken =3D=3D Markus Affolter erforscht die zellul=C3=A4ren und molekularen Prozesse bei = der Ausbildung von Organen und Blutgef=C3=A4ssnetzwerken bei der Fruchtflie= ge Drosophila melanogaster sowie beim Zebrafisch. Markus Affolter gelang es, anhand von live-Imaging-Untersuchungen die Netzw= erkbildung in Drosophila und im Zebrafisch mit Hilfe hochaufl=C3=B6sender M= ikroskopie live zu dokumentieren. Dies erlaubt es nun, die Funktion von Mol= ek=C3=BClen in der Morphogenese besser verstehen zu k=C3=B6nnen. Weiterhin zeigte sein Labor in Zusammenarbeit mit der Universit=C3=A4t Frei= burg, Deutschland, und der Universit=C3=A4t Lausanne, Schweiz, dass das Mor= phogen Dpp und der Feedback-Regler Pentagone Schl=C3=BCsselfunktionen beim = proportionalen Gewebewachstum (Scaling) in der Fl=C3=BCgelscheibe der Fruch= tfliege =C3=BCbernehmen. Neben biologischen Fragestellungen lag ein Schwerp= unkt seiner Arbeit auf der Entwicklung neuer Methoden.
